Halloween Reflections…and we’re in a contest!

Since Cuppa is still on hiatus, we’ve really been trying to take as many opportunities to enjoy more quality time with our family as possible. Over the past four or five years since starting Cuppa, many of the opportunities we’ve had to just spend together as a family have often felt over-loaded with obligations or just simply too short. The freedom of owning a business and being your own boss sometimes gets overshadowed by the extra hours it demands, which can take away from family. No parent wants to miss out on those times their children will remember forever.

We all have fond memories of trick or treating and dressing up like ghouls and goblins, a favorite super hero, or perhaps a cartoon character. I know when I was a child, I always wanted to be whatever character I was most enamored with at the time, until I started getting more into the spooky and gruesome aspects of Halloween. Having two 5 year olds, and an almost 3 year old, our family typically coordinates something that we can all participate in, and this year was no exception. We usually put quite a bit of creativity into our costumes, but this time we really went all out.

Halloween in Michigan is typically cold, and sometimes quite wet…it might even snow a little, so you have to be prepared for just about anything. So, this year, when my wife Koren wanted to make our three boys and I fleece body suits so we could go as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I was glad to take part in that. She spent hours sewing together the various parts of our costumes, and I helped make the weapons, which were mostly paper mache and paint, and some fabric tied on with leather strips. Koren also dressed up as Master Splinter, but unfortunately her costume wasn’t ready before she took the photo featured here, and well, somebody had to take the picture.

Speaking of the photograph here, which was taken in front of Nostalgia Ink in downtown Jackson, we also decided to enter it into a photo contest! We were given some free comics when we stopped in to see if we could find Shredder, and when we got home, we saw an advertisement in the back of one of our comics for the Halloween ComicFest Costume Contest! You can find our photo and vote for us to help us win by searching for our entry on the site or by clicking here to vote on the Halloween ComicFest facebook page. We could get some awesome prize packages that our boys would surely enjoy, so please take a moment to vote for us and help us win!!
